An artificial sweetener!!!!!
(Diabetics take note!)
The American Veterinary Association has announced that any product
containing XYLITOL may be fatal to dogs. A dog that consumes
as little as a stick or two of chewing gum sweetened with
this product should be immediately taken to the veterinarian. It is
also used in candy, toothpaste and other products and
as a sweetener in baked goods! There is no amount that can
be safely consumed by a dog. The product overwhelms the liver
and death can occur within a day without immediate veterinary
intervention.
