Items Toxic to Dogs

Dogs, like children, are curious and like to put things in their mouths.  Read this article on the BFCA web site for more information: “Puppy Proofing Your Home and Yard” http://bichon.org/proofing.htm. Here is a list of items in your home that are toxic or dangerous to dogs, which can cause death or significant illness if your Bichon ingests them:

  1. Small batteries such as those from hearing aids, watches, cameras, toys
  2. Poisons such as antifreeze, moth balls, and D-con for mice
  3. Laundry items such as bleach, detergent, and fabric softener
  4. Grapes, raisons, and chocolate
  5. Xylitol, and artificial sweetener found in gum, candy, toothpaste, baked goods
  6. Cocoa mulch used in gardens
  7. Onions and garlic in large quantities
  8. Macadamia nuts
