The following information
is provided by The Health Committee of the BFCA to aid in your
understanding of health issues that may occur in Bichons.
The articles and information contained herein are not to be used as a
substitute for proper veterinary care.
This is an educational endeavor that includes the gathering of health
data to broaden our knowledge of acquired and inherited diseases that
have been diagnosed in Bichons. Through your assistance in relaying to
us VETERINARY diagnosis of your dog's problems, our data base can be
kept up to date. With current information, the BFCA will have a better
understanding of where our funds can be used most effectively.
Bichons are considered to be a healthy breed if purchased from
reputable breeders. For example, the top 5 diseases afflicting Bichons
from the last health survey are not life-threatening. Our intent is to
provide to you, the Bichon owner, informative articles on the care of
your Bichon. Some of these diseases may be found more frequently in
Bichons while others are quite rare. Minor problems may not need medical
intervention but we trust you will be prompt in seeking veterinary
assistance to prevent and treat illnesses. A link is provided to
the other BFCA official web site:

and to other
organizations in our “Links Section” that are directed to a healthy and
happy life for your dog.
